Preparation for Travel

Passports and Visas: All participants will need a valid travel document to enter Armenia. Participants must ensure that they apply for and obtain a passport in time to obtain the necessary visas for Armenia and other transfer countries. Some transfer countries may require that passports have no less than six months of validity prior to the expiration date of the passport.
Most volunteers will be able to obtain a visa at the airport in Yerevan upon arrival for a cost of 15,000 AMD. The visas are good for 120 days from your date of entry. You may obtain a visa from the local Armenian embassy or consulate. Participants staying longer than 120 days will be given options to renew their visas in Armenia.
Medical Insurance: All Birthright Armenia participants are required to enroll in local medical insurance coverage upon arrival, regardless of whether they have other medical insurance coverage. We have a special group policy with Cascade Insurance specifically for our volunteers, enrollment is done at the Birthright Armenia office and costs 5,000 AMD per month. This no-copay, no-deductible insurance policy covers all unforeseen and non-preexisting medical needs including illnesses and accidents while in Armenia. All treatment is performed in Armenia. It does not provide coverage when outside Armenia, and it does not include emergency evacuation for medical care in another country. For that type of coverage, each participant is advised to search the Internet for companies that provide SOS medical evacuation, if desired.
