Before You Apply
Your Birthright Armenia application will give us guidance as to what type of internship/volunteerism you wish to carry out while in Armenia. Furthermore, the application interview will give each applicant an opportunity to discuss individual interests and hear about the available options in Armenia. Successful applicants will receive various volunteerism options prior to their arrival in Armenia.
You can volunteer in Armenia for as little as four weeks and for as long as a year. However, in order to be eligible for a travel fellowship, your need to complete at least 9 weeks for a 50% fellowship, and 14 weeks for a full fellowship. Travel fellowships are reimbursements of your airfare cost upon successful completion of all travel fellowship requirements. See the How It All Works section for more details.
NOTE: If you are a participant of one of the diasporan Armenia-based internship programs below, and if you wish to be eligible for a Birthright Armenia travel fellowship, Birthright Armenia will credit you for the volunteer service performed with those organizations, and will find you an additional internship to complete the minimum term for a 50% or full travel fellowship. We call this an “add-on” internship. However, there is no need to be a participant of one of those programs to be a Birthright Armenia participant.
