Birthright Armenia collaborated with Armenian-American recording artist Sebu on the volunteer internship program’s first ever promotional music video. The result is “Watch the River Change Course,” a song about collaboration and discovery.
Sebu—best known for his band Capital Cities’ global smash “Safe and Sound”—worked closely with Sevan Kabakian, Country Director of Birthright Armenia in Yerevan, who reached out to the artist in 2015 with the concept for the video.
“We’re so grateful to have a talented artist like Sebu join forces with us for this special project. It’s a collaboration that showcases the value of putting our diverse skills to the service of a good cause” Kabakian said in a statement.
Produced by a local production team based in Yerevan, the video shows real participants from all over the world singing and dancing to the upbeat music in a series of fun clips shot at locations all across Armenia.
“Armenia is a beautiful place and a nation filled with gifts and opportunity. I visit often, and my experiences are always rewarding,” said Sebu. “Birthright Armenia helps driven, motivated people from around the world get there and do good things, challenge themselves, learn, grow. I’m thrilled to get involved.”
The three-and-a-half-minute joyride also features Jivan Gasparyan Jr. playing the duduk in an unconventional cheerful style.
Be sure to watch the video to the very end, even beyond the credits, to get the full flavor of the journey!
“Watch the River Change Course”
Pick up a stone, throw it into the river
Watch it fall to the bottom and lay there helpless
Now gather your friends and throw a few more
Watch the river change course
Water is power only if it feeds a flower
From the top of a tower to the bottom of the hour
And if you achieve it there’s an even bigger prize
Discovery in everyone’s eyes
We are flowing down to be carried up
To the open skies above, above, above
