During the month of July, Birthright Armenia (BR) and Armenian Volunteer Corps (AVC) participated in two Armenian festivals, one in Toronto and one in London. Both organizations had strong representation at the Armenian SummerFest (Kermes) on July 8-10 in Toronto and at the Armenian Street Festival on July 17 in London.
SummerFest is the largest event of the year for the Toronto Armenian community. It brings together children, youth, and adults for three days of Armenian music, food, and entertainment. This year’s event was the 20th anniversary and it was hands-down the best-attended year, as many of the 2000 Syrian-Armenians who recently moved to Toronto attended for the first time.
This year was the 6th year for the Armenian Street Festival in London. The festival brings together over 1000 people every year from the UK Armenian community to celebrate Armenian culture and to share opportunities of ways to connect with their local Armenian community and with Armenia.
Thanks to our alumni in Toronto and London, we can expect many new volunteers for 2016 and 2017. If you know of any events coming up in your community that BR and AVC can participate in, make sure to let us know by sending an email to info@birthrightarmenia.am.
If you're from Toronto or the UK and you're interested in finding out more about BR and AVC, make sure to reach out to our Ambassadors who are available to assist you and answer your questions.
