Empowering Communities: Birthright Armenia Partners with Gagarin Project

2 min read

Birthright Armenia partners with various organizations to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities. One such organization is the Gagarin Project, initiated by the DAR Foundation for Regional Development and Competitiveness.

The Gagarin Project focuses on sustainable territorial development in several settlements within the Sevan community in the Gegharkunik Province. Through innovative techniques and a comprehensive approach, the project aims to enhance the well-being, creativity, and happiness of the local communities while preserving their unique cultural heritage.

The Gagarin Project is built on several fundamental pillars, each geared towards the creation of a self-sufficient and forward-thinking community. These pillars include renewing identity through education, a high-quality environment, and sustainable economic development.

A Vision for Sustainable Development

As Birthright Armenia participants join forces with the Gagarin Project, they embark on a transformative journey, contributing their skills and enthusiasm to shape a brighter future for the Armenian communities. One past participant who left a remarkable impact is Sevan Balikciyan from the Netherlands. From September to October 2022, Sevan volunteered at the Gagarin Project through Birthright Armenia, and his contribution was nothing short of transformative.

During his time on the project, Sevan took on the challenge of crafting a digital agriculture strategy. This strategy involved a comprehensive assessment of technological agriculture innovations in the market, analyzing their relevance to the Gagarin Valley, and prioritizing the most impactful approaches. "What the Gagarin Project team are working on will impact many lives of fellow Armenians, positively impact the Armenian economy, and make Armenia stronger,” Sevan remarked, recognizing the significance of this work.

Sevan Turns His Passion into Action

Sevan's dedication and expertise were evident throughout his five-week engagement. The insights and analysis he provided formed an essential piece of the puzzle in making agriculture in the valley a resounding success. His efforts were not in vain, as he collaborated with global agricultural experts and received support from a wide range of consulting colleagues experienced in agriculture.

His passion for the project and commitment to fostering sustainable development in Armenia exemplify the spirit of Birthright Armenia volunteers. Sevan's journey with the Gagarin Project is a testament to the power of individuals coming together, bridging gaps, and leaving a lasting impact on the communities they serve.

The partnership between Birthright Armenia and the Gagarin Project represents a beacon of hope for the sustainable development of Armenian communities. Through the dedication and efforts of Birthright Armenia volunteers, the Gagarin Project thrives in its mission to create self-sufficient, culturally rich, and prosperous settlements that embrace the past while looking toward a vibrant future.
