How our volunteers make impact

2 min read

We are sharing just a couple of stories about our 2022 Birthright Armenia volunteers, to showcase their journey to and in Armenia. Since International Volunteers Day is celebrated in December, it is an occasion to highlight the amazing work our volunteers do on a daily basis. This year, we welcomed 205 Birthright Armenia volunteers—each one having played a core role in our collective successes. Through their hard work and dedication, we continue to make a positive impact in Armenia.

BECOME A PART OF OUR FAMILY AND IMPACT ARMENIA

Karin Garahbtian, 21, from Australia has a BA in Construction and Property Management. She currently volunteers as a Construction Project Manager at "Let There Be Space" LLC and also interned at Tumo Center for Creative Technologies. Karin expressed that "following my Birthright Armenia journey, I aim to have a better understanding of the needs and wants of the community living in Armenia, as well as their daily concerns and frustrations. With this knowledge, I aim to create practices and actions within the Sydney Armenian organizations to directly impact the people of Armenia by addressing the main issues. This will tie into a future goal of mine which is to hopefully start my own NGO to give back to Armenia." Her involvement at Let There Be Space has been so rewarding that the organization recently offered her a full-time job position, which we hope will serve as an opportunity for her to repatriate.

Our volunteer Armen Madikians, 31 years old, from the United States also noted "I want to pair what I’ve learned thus far in law and business with my own interests and skillset to help benefit the Armenian nation. Birthright Armenia represents an ideal means to pursue this goal while also learning more about the homeland from which I’ve been estranged for so long". He is currently volunteering at Children of Armenia Fund (COAF) as a Strategy Planner, Researcher, and an active member of their Communications team. His second volunteer placement site is Bars Media Documentary Film Production Studio, where he brings in his legal expertise by serving as a valuable asset in consulting on legal matters. At Bars Media, Armen got involved in getting the Aurora Sunrise film project to be shared internationally.
