What is a modern Armenian in the diaspora?

5 min

By participating in the Birthright Armenia program, I sought to find the answer to this question.

After meeting so many wonderful people, I became convinced that our homeland has a bright future if our diaspora has such talented and dedicated youth.

This program gave me a unique opportunity to connect with Armenians from all over the world — from Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Greece, France, Brazil, Syria, and many other countries.

We are all so different, yet one thing unites us — our deep love for our homeland.

Each of us came here to invest the most valuable resource of the modern day— our time.

We gained invaluable experience which will forever remain in our memory and became part of the big BR family.

Through Birthright Armenia, I realized that being Armenian is not just about bloodline or language; it is about shared values, traditions, and the responsibility to contribute to our nation’s progress. It is about using our knowledge, skills, and passion to make a difference, whether in Armenia or within our local communities abroad.

This journey was more than just an experience — it was a transformation. It reshaped my understanding of identity, strengthened my sense of belonging, and ignited an even greater desire to stay engaged with my roots. I leave this program with a heart full of gratitude, lifelong friendships, and a renewed commitment to Armenia and its people.

No matter where life takes us, we will always carry a piece of Armenia within us. And that, perhaps, is the true essence of a modern Armenian in the diaspora.

One of the most memorable excursions was a three-day trip to Meghri. The breathtaking nature that surrounded us and the warmth of the people we met left a lasting impression. Every moment was filled with the beauty of the mountain landscapes, the fresh air, and heartfelt conversations, leaving us with vivid memories to cherish.

In the end, we will be left with only the bright memories of the moments we lived and the people who made this journey special.

Thank you, BR, for the opportunity to be part of something truly meaningful!
