Become a Part of a BOOMING Sphere, Choose IT

3 min read

"I am so lucky to have found a career that combines two of my passionsTechnology and Armenia," says Vehik Golabi, a 24-year old volunteer from the U.S., who chose to dedicate a year of her life serving in Armenia. Vehik is one of the many participants currently working in the IT industry. Especially now that Armenia is garnering more attention globally as an emerging IT player, we encourage our participants to consider IT as a volunteering option and challenge themselves in this growing field.

Volunteering with Armenian IT Companies

A graduate of University of California, Los Angeles, Vehik specializes in Cognitive Science to combine Technology and Psychology. Seeing the potential for Armenia to grow as an international technological center, she came to bring her skills and passion to her homeland. She joined the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises (UATE) as it was hosting its annual Digitec Expo and continued volunteering there for several more months. Her enthusiasm and hard work eventually led to a job offer from UATE. "I've been blessed with the honor of working at UATE as a Project Manager and assisting our Armath Engineering Lab project with international marketing and branding," reflects Vehik on her volunteer experience.

Georgik Barsamian, 24, another participant interested in deepening his professional skills, came from Montreal to acquire hands-on experience in software project management. "Back in Canada, it's easy to find internships in software development but very difficult in software project management. However, in Armenia through the Birthright Armenia program, I was offered many opportunities to explore this sector," tells Georgik. He is currently volunteering with ARLOOPA as a Software Project Manager, where he has the chance to apply all his management knowledge.

IT Internships Even in Gyumri

IT is booming not only in Yerevan! Since we offer volunteering opportunities not just in the capital but also in other regions around Armenia, many of our participants choose to practice their skills outside Yerevan. Juan Guiragossian, 23, from Argentina was inspired by his cousins' experience in Armenia with Birthright Armenia. "I hope I leave my contribution to Armenia, working on something that has perpetuity and serves to improve the lives of people," said Juan before arriving in Armenia. With a Master's degree in Business Administration, Juan volunteered in Gyumri liaising with Annaniks LLC, where he worked as an SQL Specialist.

We've got new stories to tell every day. True success stories! Because all contributions, large and small, are a precious help for Armenia. Now that you know how important the IT field is in Armenia and have our participants' stories in mind, get yourself acquainted with the policy changes we have starting January 2022 and the exception we introduced for IT specialists. If you are still thinking about it, now is the time to apply to our program.
